Local and Mayoral Elections
Some EU citizens are able to vote in local elections – you can vote in local elections, mayoral elections, and Police & Crime Commissioner elections if you are:
- 18 or over
- AND A British, Irish, qualifying Commonwealth or some EU citizens with voting rights.
Which EU Citizens Can Vote in English Local Elections?
As of 2024, only some EU citizens can vote in English local elections. They must be:
- From a country with a Voting and Candidacy Rights treaty with the UK
- (currently: Denmark, Luxembourg, Poland, Portugal, Spain)
- OR have retained rights by living legally in the UK since before 31 December 2020
