1.1 What to Expect

Welcome!
Thanks for joining this e-learning course for youth practitioners on delivering democratic education with young people. We’re excited to have you on board. Whether you’re brand new to political education or already running great conversations with your group, this training is here to support you with practical tools, clear information, and ideas you can use straight away. Let’s get started..

The training is split into 9 modules:

  • Module 8 - Activities for engaging young people

By the end of this training you will:

  • Understand the democratic systems across the UK and how they differ in each nation.
  • Know who can vote, and how elections work. 
  • Be confident in supporting young people to register and prepare to vote.
  • Recognise common barriers to participation for young people and know how to help them overcome these.
  • Have tools and techniques to connect politics to the real issues young people care about.
  • Be equipped to facilitate inclusive, impartial conversations about democracy.
  • Know how to design and adapt impactful democratic education sessions in your setting.
  • Be familiar with key resources and games to enhance your delivery.
  • Feel prepared to empower young people to participate in UK democracy – whether voting, debating, campaigning or engaging with decision-makers.
