1.4 Why This Matters
Young people care about the world around them – but many still feel left out of political conversations. They might not see how politics connects to their lives, or feel confident enough to take part.
Less than half of young people across the UK say they’re interested in politics, and that number is even lower among 15–17 year-olds – the very group closest to voting age (Electoral Commission, 2025). Many say they haven’t had the chance to learn about politics in a way that feels relevant or accessible. As one 17-year-old put it:
