1.5 Meeting Young People Where They Are

Some young people are already passionate about issues like climate justice, housing or education. Others feel completely disengaged, unsure where to start or convinced it doesn’t matter. This training is designed to help you support young people wherever they are on that journey – from the curious to the sceptical, from the already active to those yet to find their voice.

It’s not just about mindset, there are practical barriers too. Young people are more likely to move frequently, live in shared housing, or lack photo ID – all of which can make registering and voting harder. Understanding these challenges is key to making political participation feel possible, not overwhelming.

As a youth practitioner, you don’t need to be a political expert. You just need to be willing to create space for questions, conversation and reflection. This training gives you the tools to do that – and to help young people build the confidence, knowledge and sense of agency they need to take part in our democracy.
