6.2 Finding young people’s interests

Young people are often more politically engaged than they realise. Many already care deeply about issues like:

• Climate change
• Housing and cost of living
• Mental health
• Education and exams
• Racism, gender equality and social justice

Remember you know the young people you work with best. Are there any issues important to your group that are affected by politician decisions? 

The key isn’t to convince them to care about politics – it’s to show how the things they already care about are connected to political decisions. Your role is to help make those connections visible.
