6.5 Common Challenges - Misinformation

It’s not unusual for young people to bring strong views or incomplete information from what they’ve seen online. This doesn’t need to shut the conversation down – instead, gently challenge it by asking where the information came from, and whether other sources say the same.

Encourage critical thinking. Explore trusted news sources together, and look for a range of perspectives. The goal is not to “correct” someone, but to help them understand how to check information for themselves.

E.g. Where did you first hear that? Shall we see if other places are reporting it too?
